Tay Bridge Transmitter

This is low tech footage of the Tay Bridge transmitter for arqiva. The transmitter supplies the Dundee and North Fife area with analogue television and Tay FM radio. Its a medium power relay of Angus (the next county). The structure is 45 metres high and I am presuming is also sub-let to mobile phone companies as a relay point.

This transmitter went on fire two years ago. Some images and a nice wee rural report from a local paper appears in the link below.

These are images of the Greenfield Scalp transmitter that serves North Fife and Dundee in Scotland, UK. This is an AM radio transmitter that is owned by the commercial National Grid Wireless network.

The mast is 10 metres high and transmits at 1053 for Talk Sport (1000W for those that know what that means), 1161 Tay AM (1400W), 1242 Virgin AM (500W) and according to one internet table, un night-time pick-up Ciel AM at 981, a French broadcast that I have so far not heard.

This mast attracted me as from the road it looks like a ships mast; the transmitting station sitting in a dip that is not visible from above. The backdrop is the River Tay, which adds to this optical illusion of Tall Ships to shore.

Fife, since the Industrial Revolution has always been associated with heavy industry. The coal faces since the eighties have all but gone, some of them being built upon in recent years with private 'box' housing. This however is a wee jewel in the Kingdom's crown, a reminder that the hydrocarbon chain is alive and kicking. This is Mossmorran, Fife's Ethylene Plant, courtesy of ExxonMobil and Shell.
